So after graduation I headed off to St. Olaf College where I majored in Creative Writing and Women's Studies (yeah, that was practical!). About 9 months after finishing at Olaf, I met the man of my dreams and embarked on a whirlwind romance--dated (if you can call it that, since we lived 400 miles apart!), engaged and married within 6 months.
From there my husband's vocation (forensics coach--wouldn't Mrs. Kirsch be proud?) took us to Houston and Rice University. I managed to get a job there in Student Activities, gave birth to our daughter, and then fell ass-backwards into my ideal career field--international education (guess my study abroad experience in college paid off more than my major!). I worked as an assistant director in the study abroad office, sending off hapless kids to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world.
Twelve years later, Ohio University recruited my husband to take over as their Director of Forensics (and the team is kicking ass!). Fortunately for me, the university also happened to be creating a job in the international area--recruiting international students. So I went from the export to the import side of international ed. and I absolutely love it! I do spend a fair amount of time on the road. I won't lie, I do enjoy international travel, but it's exhausting, not nearly as glamorous as it sounds (LOTS of flights, always coach, and often I see very little of the places I go), and being away from Dan and Nora for weeks at a time really bites. But that's reality for you.
So that's my life in a very large nutshell. Well, at least this long narrative will cut down on me having to recap everything when I see you at the reunion! :) |

Christmas 2007. Nora is always making crazy faces!

Even though she hasn't been able to travel internationally with me since she was a baby, I'm hoping that someday I can take her eveywhere I've been...like Turkey!
